| TheArnd Bronchial blocker is a new device to provide lung separation in a patient with a conventional single lumen tube. It is ideal for pateints who come to the OR with single lumen tubes in place in which changing the tube is either risky or impossible. It also would be useful for trauma patients who develope the need for thoracotomy, and lung separation in the middle of the case. The kit (figure 1) contains the blocker and the adapter to place it (figure 2). The blocker has a soft form fitted balloon that seems to require about 2 mls of gas to inflate it to seal the bronchus. To aid in placing the blocker it has a loop of string to snare the fiberoptic bronchoscope and guide it into the appropriate bronchus (Figure 3). The adapter is solidly built and has a channel for the bronchoscope, a port for the blocker and a fitting for the anesthesia circuit.
